Welcome to Flaming Gorge Country - a vast
outdoor playground known for its year-round recreation, breath-taking
scenery, abundant wildlife and classic frontier history. Located
in Daggett County, the area was designated a National Recreation
Area in 1968. AREA MAP
Outdoor Recreation :
The centerpiece of Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area
is Flaming Gorge Reservoir, a 91-mile-long lake formed by
the Flaming Gorge Dam, offering superb boating and trophy
fishing. But the fun doesn't stop there. From hiking
and biking to rafting and snowmobiling, you'll find
outdoor adventure on and off the water all year long.
National Scenic Byway:
Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area provides the contrast
in scenery the West is famous for, from the rugged Uinta Mountains
to the expansive Wyoming deserts. One of the richest areas
for wildlife and their fossilized ancestors in the western
United States, this spectacular area serves as home to a variety
of big game, including moose, Rocky Mountain elk, pronghorn
antelope, bighorn sheep, and wild horses. No wonder the Flaming
Gorge-Uintas National Scenic Byway which winds through the
area is themed "Wildlife Through the Ages."
Historical Sites:
Rich in western lore, Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area
was home to mountain men, pioneers, outlaws and Native Americans.
John C. Fremont and John Wesley Powell were early visitors
during their explorations of the West. The legends of Butch
Cassidy, Jim Bridger, and Queen Anne Bassett were forged in
this country. Historic Swett Ranch, Browns Park, Fort Bridger,
and the Oregon Trail all offer carefully preserved glimpses
of the early days of the western frontier.
Lodging
and Events: The two major
communities of Utah's Flaming Gorge Country are Manila
and Dutch John. Annual community events include Manila's
Cow Rodeo and the Labor Day Festival of Lights. In addition
to ample camping opportunities, the area offers excellent
accommodations and restaurants to meet all your vacation expectations.

Dinosaurland has four state parks within its boundaries, each
with its own distinct personality and recreational opportunities.
Look for dinosaur tracks at Red Fleet. Sun on the beach at
Steinaker. Fish for walleye at Starvation. Take a stroll through
the Dinosaur Gardens at the Utah State Field House Museum.
Make it a point to see them all!
