Uintah County

Uintah County is home to Northeastern Utah’s largest cities and the best places to find lodging and dining while exploring the wilder parts of the area. Vernal, Roosevelt and Duchesne are all important stops for the vacationer to Dinosaurland.

Vernal is home to the Utah Field House of Natural History Museum and the Dinosaur Gardens – and is famous for its bigger-than-life pink dinosaur. Located on Hwy 40, 170 miles east of Salt Lake City, Vernal is the county seat of Uintah County. It’s also centered conveniently between Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area and the Dinosaur National Monument. While you’re here, you might also want to explore Vernal’s downtown history, Steinaker and Red Fleet State Parks and the petroglyphs of Dry Fork’s McConkie Ranch. Major events include the Outlaw Trail Theater and the Dinosaur Round-up Rodeo held each July at Vernal’s Western Park Arena.
