Roosevelt/Duchesne
Roosevelt, the largest city in Duchesne County, is located on Hwy 40 halfway between Vernal and Duchesne. Gateway to the High Uintas Wilderness Area, the town of Roosevelt sprang up almost overnight when the Ute Reservation was opened to settlement in 1905. Today, the town is known for its western heritage, green parks, and hometown hospitality. Major annual events include the Northern Ute Pow Wow in July and the Uintah Basin in Celebration festivities held in August.
Duchesne is also located on Highway 40. Home to Starvation State Park, Duchesne hosts the Annual Walleye Festival each September. Visitors can also explore Indian Canyon, Upper Stillwater Dam and the north fork of the Duchesne River.
